12:00 to 1:00 PM WEBINAR Presentation

"50 Years of Conservation in Arizona," Presented by Daniel Stellar, Nature Conservancy of Arizona

The Nature Conservancy is a global organization with strong roots in Arizona. Our land, water, forests – and more recently a focus on the livability of our cities – is not about protecting nature from people, instead we are protecting nature for people. For more than 50 years, The Nature Conservancy Arizona chapter has done just that. But, we haven’t done it alone. Dan Stellar, state director, will share some examples of innovative collaboration both from a historical perspective and a vision for the future.

Dan Stellar is State Director for the Arizona Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. He previously served as Deputy State Director for Arizona since 2016 overseeing a team of approximately 44 conservation staff working across the state, and contributing to strategic planning.

Stellar has spent his career in the nonprofit conservation sector across North America, and globally. He previously served in positions with the Center for ReSource Conservation and The Earth Institute at Columbia University where he oversaw international water policy and conservation work. There, he spent time in India, Brazil and Mali and greatly deepened his appreciation for the role the environment plays in people’s lives and livelihoods. His passion for conservation started in the mountains of northern New England as a child and was solidified when he lived in Alaska.

Stellar holds a B.A. from University of Massachusetts, a master of international affairs from Columbia University, has completed two certificates in leadership and is a certified Project Management Professional.

He is a committed community volunteer and an avid endurance athlete. He has completed over 25 marathons, half marathons and long-distance bike rides and in the process raised over $20,000 for charity. He and his wife are the proud parents of a very energetic and enthusiastic 5-year-old who knows lots of facts about space.
