Environmental Justice Policies, Tools, & Best Practices for Environmental Professionals in Arizona
Presented by Brian Burdorf, Operations Director, Trinity Consultants

In 2021, environmental justice (EJ) quickly transitioned from political rhetoric to an Administration cornerstone driving policy changes and enforcement actions warranting not only awareness but also action by commercial and industrial operators. This presentation will provide an overview of key aspects Arizona environmental professionals need to know about EJ, including:

Recent EJ federal and state developments and the way these policies are shaping environmental permitting and enforcement cases
High-level EJ implications
Information on EJ risk assessment data and other implications for industry, utilities, consultants, and attorneys, and
Example EJ comparisons for communities surrounding different areas in Arizona.

We will provide a brief EJ assessment demo using EJSCREEN and EJ recommendations for environmental professionals supporting operations in Arizona.

Brian Burdorf is an Operations Director within Trinity and is Trinity’s Environmental Justice Practice Leader. Mr. Burdorf has 30+ years of air quality environmental experience which includes several hundred projects ranging from environmental justice support to state minor source and federal major source permitting (including PSD, Nonattainment, and case-by-case Major Source MACT New Source Review, Title V, and Deepwater Port Licenses). His experience includes permitting in Arizona, as well as compliance assurance, auditing, facility siting, due diligence, expert testimony, air quality impact assessments, and public hearing support.
