Top 10 Tips and Techniques for Crafting Effective Contracts
Presented by Sue Chesler, Clinical Professor of Law, Arizona State University
Join Professor Sue Chesler as she discusses effective contract drafting tips and techniques for environmental professionals. Contract language can have a profound impact on our professional (and personal) lives. In this presentation, you will learn how to effectively review, revise, and draft contract language to meet your needs and to avoid potential disputes. You will leave with concrete tips and techniques that you, your staff, or your lawyers can immediately implement to craft more effective contracts.
Professor Sue Chesler is a Clinical Professor of Law at Arizona State University Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, where she teaches Contract Drafting, Legal Method and Writing, and Legal Advocacy. Her scholarly interests focus on transactional skills, contract drafting, and legal writing, and her current research examines the benefits of incorporating narrative techniques in transactional drafting to better effectuate the parties’ interests. Professor Chesler is an active member of the Legal Writing Institute, the Association of Legal Writing Directors, and other professional organizations focusing on teaching skills and promoting the use of plain language in the practice of law. She is also a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section and regularly presents Continuing Legal Education seminars to practicing lawyers and non-lawyers on legal writing, contract drafting, and negotiations. Before entering the teaching profession, she was a practicing attorney in New York City for more than 10 years, and worked as in-house counsel at a non-profit child welfare agency focusing on employment and labor law matters.
