Leveraging Digital Response Strategies in Environmental Emergency Response
|
In this presentation, we will describe the lessons learned from spill planning and response using static (often dated and inaccurate), paper-based strategies and limited communication systems versus an integrated, comprehensive digital dashboard that integrates real-time data collection from UAV, customized digital forms and various sensors. We will present the high-level lessons learned about each technology advancement used in planning and emergency spill response, including the development of visualization data capture and communication platforms that leverage the latest technology to bring ALL data in faster (real time) and with more detail for responders. We identify the top three challenges and promising practices to address them.
John Bradley, a father of five and a visionary entrepreneur, has dedicated his career to creating innovative solutions in environmental and emergency response. After serving in the US Marine Corps and attending the University of Nevada, he founded several successful companies, including Waters Excavation. This company specialized in general excavation, trenchless technologies, and environmental remediation, setting a high standard for safety and innovation with comprehensive training for employees. John's visionary approach led him to establish H2O Environmental in Las Vegas in 1996, identifying a niche for specialized vacuum truck services. Under his leadership, H2O Environmental became the leading hazmat response provider in Nevada, expanding its reach across 14 Western States with offices in Boise, Salt Lake City, Reno, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. The company's pioneering use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) for environmental response, particularly during a spill in Buhl, Idaho 2016 marked a significant advancement in the industry of using UAS and software. After the sale of H2O Environmental to Clean Harbors, John founded Rapid Response Systems in late 2019 and partnered with Corey Mecham in 2020, whose expertise in environmental consulting, UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) operations, digital interfaces, and ArcGIS has proven pivotal. Together, they have propelled RRS to the forefront of digital emergency response solutions. Their collaborative efforts have yielded an innovative suite of digital tools that significantly enhance communication and coordination among emergency response teams, thereby elevating operational efficiency and effectiveness to new heights.
